The Carving and Lettering Workshop is situated in Pendle, at the foot of the Pennine hills on the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Our proximity to the Yorkshire Dales, Ribble Valley and Calderdale has helped foster an awareness for sympathetic memorial design in rural churchyards.

In order to create beautiful memorial designs the text,  the shape, the material and its setting are all given equal consideration.

 

I am a sculptor and letter-carver who specialises in the design and handcarving of memorials. I make memorials from stone quarried in the British Isles; these include Yorkshire stone, Welsh blue/grey slate, Westmoreland or Lakeland slates and fine-grained limestones; all these stones take lettering beautifully. It is often possible to choose a stone local to its final setting.

The Carving and Lettering Workshop also has a particular specialism in relief carving in slate. A realistic style of carving which lends itself to portraiture, landscape and images of personal significance.
